We don't need books like this in the middle of a war, my brother is over there and he deserves our supprt. Everyone is down on Bush but hes just defending what is right.

And here I thought it might actually be considered supportive of our troops if people like Mr. Matsumoto speak out against secretly injecting them with untested drugs against their knowledge, making them sick for life. My bad, I stand corrected, Mr. "bill s."

May I suggest that exposing unethical practice by the military does support our troops? It seems to me that the peril of being in Iraq and Afghanistan does not need to be compounded by unnecessary domestic threats to the health of our troops. A book that fights for the safety of our soldiers can do much more for our troops than empty gestures such as tying ribbons on trees.

Dear Bill S: It is precisely out of concern for people like your brother that I have written this book. According to declassified documents from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command and Armed Forces Epidemiological Board, troop deployments are considered "research opportunities," so you're brother being in Iraq makes him especially susceptible to becoming an unwitting subject in an experiment. This is a personal issue for me too. One of my nephews by a former marriage is currently stationed in Okinawa with the U.S. Marine Corps. He is on standby for deployment to Iraq. So my family has ties to both the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Army [my father and three of my uncles all served in the Army (WWII and Korea); one of them retired a light colonel. I went through two years of Army R.O.T.C., which was mandatory at the college I attended]. With this book, I hope to avert any harm to people like my nephew or your brother through unethical experimentation. My best wishes for your brother's continued safety.

The perpetrators were guilty of a crime, using investigational drugs on an unsuspecting control group soldiers -this is a fact
your brother is a soldier
I was a soldier once- one who risked much.
FYI- maybe this will get your blood pumping...
A retired Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was given partial ownership I believe, of the company BioPort, sole source of the vaccine.
Exposure of criminal negligence, conflict of interests, and stopping the criminal and irreparable harm caused to to people like me and your brother is good. Exposing it is the only way to stop it. Even though it might not FEEL GOOD in an Election Year.

Suffering can be noble, if and only if it serves the purpose of causing illegal and harmful practices to stop. This is not minor, this is life and death to some, and just daily pain and suffering to others.
Something needs to be done so that perhaps our sons and daughters don't have to suffer. My daughter dates a West Point Cadet who graduates in May. Though I believe they are not contagious, Autoimmune problems I am sure can be inherited. If this young man, and his classmates and his future sergeants and privates, and his children benefit in the future, that is a good thing... that would be the ethincal and right thing. Have you thought about what this might do to our blood supply- I don't give blood anymore- I was an officer once who made sure we all gave- so contaminated blood may be spread around as well- too tough to swallow- not really, it is all in Gods hands, but suffering does happen and should be stopped.
Thanks, sorry for the length-Rangers Lead the Way
ps I pray your brother returns home. Sooner than later and well.
Really, I will begin to pray MORE for the Soldiers' safe return.
and yet a little more...
God bless and remember- Truth Today that hurts is far better than the impact of supressing the truth and the harm that causes later.
Mr Matsumoto does this at much personal financial and professional risk to himself I believe. This does not make his life easy. He was successful before this book.
He has a better duty concept than most officers I served with.
He is a courageous man.

see mr Matusumoto's quote from one of the other replys
So it is important to remember that the experiments I have written about in my book were not carried out by U.S. military personnel on others; they were conducted on our own troops by a minority of military doctors and scientists who have misinformed the American people about the old and new anthrax vaccines. And, yes, you are right, these experiments could have repercussions on us all for generations to come. Thank you for your interest and support.

God Bless

I don't think that this book undermines support for the soldiers in the field, but the big guns at the Pentagon and the WHite house are another matter. I feel we can criticize a Cohen, Bush, Rumsfeld, etc. when we believe that they are not acting in the country's best interest or the best interest of the soldiers in the field. We shouldn't have gone into Iraq in the first place, but now that we're there, we need to do support and protect the troops there. I know someone whose son was sent there without body armor, and he had to buy the body armor himself for his some. If the "Big Guns" decided to inject untested cocktails into soldiers - and are still doing it - we need to find out about it and it needs to stop.

Get a clue!!! Do you want your brother to be treated as a guinea pig, while he is spending his time defending the country?

Your statement shows no compassion for your brother OR ANY OHER SOLDIER who has served. My old unit is over there, with a lot of old friends; I care about them. I served in the last gulf war and they told us they wouldn't treat us like they did the vietnam vets. They told these kids that are over there now that they wouldn't treat them like they treated us.

You figure it out - but don't come out with the pile of stink that you are coming out with because it smells political.

I am angry that I have suffered for over a decade because of someone else's bright idea of how to "test" a vaccine under field conditions, with a substance that isn't approved for veterinary use,, much less human use.

So shut up and quit whining about "support our troops". Civilians tend to forget about soldiers before the last bullet flies!!!

Bill S.,

Don't worry, I won't jump all over you for what you wrote, but here's an idea--try reading the book first and then decide what you want to say.

I am still in the middle of the book, but like many others on this forum, I have had the unfortunate experience of being a guinea pig firsthand, so alot of us know what we're talking about. Matter of fact, my first duty upon arriving at Dover AFB was to get an anthrax shot. 2 weeks later, when I was due for the next one, I was ordered to go get it the first thing in the morning, 2 weeks after that, the same thing. I hadn't even flown on a mission before I received 3 squalene-containing doses in a row.

Mr. Matsumoto has done all military members a great service in getting this information out to the public. Please, I encourage you to read his book, and hopefully you will understand why it is so important to know all of the facts and to spread the word to others.

It DOES SHOW a true support for our troops to be concerned that your loved ones in the military are NOT ONLY being put in harm's way, BUT ALSO being used for investigational study of drugs not yet approved by the FDA. What have you really got if you don't have your health?

If BioPort Corporation, the sole supplier of anthrax vaccine, is not slowing down its production even with the current injunction, what is it they must already know? I have a lot of information that I'd like to share. Can you advise who to go to for help?

Mr. Matsumoto,

Is there any lawyer out there who might be willing to investigate whether the DoD is guilty of a crime by injecting our military with investigational drugs? How could personal contact be made?

Dear pnalin: Not knowing the type of information you wish to disclose I can't predict how news organizations will respond to it. If you want to gauge interest, you may want to start by contacting the Lansing State Journal (BioPort is located in Lansing, Michigan). The newspaper's address is 120 E. Lenawee, Lansing MI 48919; the Metro Editor is Betsy Miner. Her email address, which is on the LSJ website, is

PostPosted: Thu Nov 04, 2004 3:38 pm    Post subject: Reply to Guest, RE: Lawyers Reply with quote

Dear Guest: Under existing federal and military regulations, the administration of investigational new drugs to troops can be done legally. A 1974 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Defense enables DHHS to selectively waive the informed consent requirement provided there is a compelling "national security" reasons for doing so. This MOU does not delineate any criteria for making this determination. It is completely at DOD's discretion. Also at DOD's discretion is the option of giving new drugs and vaccines to troops in clinical trials (in other words to experiment on them), and then classifying that trial. People lacking the proper security clearances (which would include all the military personnel subjected to such experimentation), would never know what was going on. This is a system which is ripe for abuse. In September 1999, President Bill Clinton made it even easier for DOD to give troops experimental medicines. Clinton issued an Executive Order that permits the Secretary of Defense to bypass the Department of Health and Human Services altogether when seeking to give troops investigational new drugs (INDs). Now the SECDEF need only go to the president for permission to administer investigational new drugs and vaccines to troops without informed consent. The Department of Defense has Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), which, in theory, help ensure that military experiments on troops do no harm. My book presents the evidence that these IRBs have failed in this task.

Changing this state of affairs will require more than the average "ambulance chaser," or even a firm of accomplished, highly esteemed ambulance chasers; it will probably require a specialist(s) in Constitutional law who can defend the right of military personnel to equal protection under the law.

The bottom line is this: giving experimental drugs and vaccines to troops without their informed consent is legal. It will require changes to exisiting regulations to make it illegal.

Mr Matsumoto: Thanks for Explaining Legal Experimentation.
In light of these facts:
What else could a young man or woman conclude?
What else could a father conclude?

Other than this: to not serve in the Nation's military due to the risk of being made permanently ill, unknowingly, by medical experiments.

I served proudly. Under these conditions, I cannot bless my childrens' decision, should it be to serve. Killed in action- I could accept -if they decided to risk it through voluntary service.
Made made permanently sick because of graft and corruption- I would never bless them in accepting that risk.

graft-Unscrupulous use of one's position to derive profit or advantages; extortion. Money or an advantage gained or yielded by unscrupulous means.

corruption-The act of corrupting or of impairing integrity, virtue, or moral principle; the state of being corrupted or debased; loss of purity or integrity; depravity; wickedness; impurity; bribery.

Certainly these are the what our new regulations promote:

That saddens me very deeply. At one time, I was proud to be one who volunteered to put myself in harms way, if called upon, to serve the well-being of my countrymen. Like firemen and policemen- I accepted that role.

When my countrymen use me unknowingly, to test reactions to drugs, how could I choose to serve? How could I encourage my children to serve? The only reason a person would serve under this condition is that they don't believe it to be true, or likely to happen to them.

Why would anyone want to serve with the knowledge that they are likely to be used unknowingly, without consent, as subjects to test new drugs and vaccines- so that someone might become wealthy at the expense of their well-being. Nothing on earth is more valuable than HEALTH.

If everyone knew this, I don't believe recruiting objectives would be met.

I'm so sorry to see the children of the greatest generation, legislate away the fortunes their parents left them in this way.

Thanks Again- for all the information.

It should be passed on- so that it causes a problem, so that the greatest nation in the world will right itself in this area.

Thanks again- Robert W of Alabama
