I'm a freshman attending an out-of-state private college. I've started the first trimester of schooling but find it very unsatisfactory; it is too structured, and the people are all pretty much the same at this small college. Little exposure. I don't really feel like I got out of high school- just stepped it up a notch. I'm not sure college is what I need/want right now. I'm going to stick this term out but I'm trying to think of things to do the second half of the year. I'm not really interested in traveling abroad but I need to do something that means something to me. I've thought about just working a common job and trying to find a program that I could do that would suffice. I want to keep up my studies, however, so I can keep up with the rest of the world. I don't want to disadvantage myself by taking a semester off. I want something that will give me an experience and expose me to new things. I've heard of Americorps but I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for. I've thought about something that would introduce me more to the arts and stuff to that nature, but perhaps its not a good idea to narrow down my options. So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

check out my thread about the sca (thesca.org - Student Conservation Corp) Also, if you're not having a good time at your private, out of state Uni, you might want to consider doing what I did in a similar situation: transfer to a state school! It'll save you and your folks tons of money and you'll still get a good education and a degree. I feel that 90% of all private schools are highly over-rated by parents and attendees, but employers look at a no name private school the same as a no name public school.
