Hi folks--

anyone have any clue what's in the "trade secret" adjuvant in the new avian flu vaccine? Of course Glaxo claims it's totally safe, as it's been "used before." Uh oh.

I've been severely immune compromised (CFSIDS, thyroid, mycoplasma) by the mandated vaccines for my Fulbright fellowship, and our son is autistic/cancer from the thimerosal adjuvant in pediatric vaccines. I write a "green" blog that's very popular, so I am trying to blog more about vaccines without, hopefully, people thinking I am totally insane. PLEASE stop by and share your experiences, opinions.

Cheers,
marie

Dear GreenFertility: GSK's proprietary adjuvant is called ASO4. It contains alum and MPL. MPL stands for monophosphoryl lipid A. The U.S. Army's proprietary (unlicensed) adjuvant developed prior to the first Gulf War for use in a second generation anthrax vaccine was called Tri-Mix or Triple Mix. Tri-Mix contained MPL (monophosphoryl lipid A) and squalene. After the war, Army scientists considered MPL to be too toxic, so they began working with Chiron Corporation of Emeryville, CA to develop an adjuvant that contained squalene and water only ... on the assumption that adjuvant toxicity with Tri-Mix was due to MPL. This assumption also proved incorrect. There are more than two dozen animal studies that generated data demonstrating squalene's ability to induce autoimmunity; and there is disputed evidence that nanodoses of squalene in anthrax vaccine sickened countless military personnel who received squalene-tainted vaccine during AVIP.

Back to ASO4 and MPL. MPL was also a component of the Ribi Adjuvant System ( I haven't checked whether it still is). The Ribi Adjuvant System, or RAS, is a derivative of Tri-Mix, which is approved for use in animals only.

As far as I know, there is no existing data showing whether MPL elicits an immune response specific to it. If MPL is immunogenic, it raises the possibility of a dangerous "cross reaction." The human body is full of lipids. Antibodies and immune cells responding to MPL might also respond to other lipids in the body, thus breaking tolerance for endogenous lipids (those native to the human body) and initiating autoimmunity.

Sincerely,

Dear Gary Matsumoto--

Thanks so much--may I presume it is appropriate to quote you on Greenfertility.blogspot.com and link to your wonderful book? I can't remember if your publicist told you, but your book came out at about the same time as my novel, and I did 30+ bookstores for my tour and saw your book EVERYWHERE, but now it's hard to find...a situation that needs to be rectified.

Alum:the NYT characterized it as a safe adjuvant already in tons of things. Isn't alum aluminum sulfate, i.e. itself a heavy metal and not great for you? Do you have any comment on the safety of alum?

What I've found REALLY ODD about the anthrax vaccine and the Gulf War enlisted/vets is that a nurse friend of mine was actually taking care of someone in the ICU who had an adverse reaction--cardiac damage. He was 19 years old and they unsure of whether he would live, even with a heart transplant. When I asked her if this was any kind of a scandal in the hospital, she said no, it was just another person she had to take care of. I don't understand why so much of what the current admin does is supposedly to "support the troops" and yet this egregious thing is being done to them ON PURPOSE and not by terrorist, and yet, NO ONE particularly cares, even if it's in front of their faces--i.e., no one was trying to cover up the etiology of this young man's problem in our local hospital. My nurse friend was fully informed it was an adverse reaction fo anthrax vaccine...

p.s. I recently saw that David Bloom's wife is active in some anti DVT foundation, which suggests to me she didn't find the vaccine-heart problems idea too compelling. But I'm sure you know that the gene related to DVT is MTHFR, which *also* has to do with inhibited detox from vaccines bec. this polymorphism affect the methylation cycle...did she read your book? Did you ever talk to her about it?

Thanks again,
marie

Der GreenFertility: Thank you for your kind words; and yes, you may link to this site if you wish. I am unaware of any proven adverse reactions to alum. There has been data suggesting a possible relationship between aluminum and Alzheimer's plaques in the brain, but I have not researched that. I only know that correlation does not prove causation. I am unaware of any association between alum and autoimmunity or vascular/arterial/cardiac disease.

Melanie Bloom gave me permission to review David's autopsy records. I never spoke to her personally. I knew David to say hello when I was still an NBC News Correspondent. After his death, all discussions concerning a possible connection between his DVT and anthrax vaccination took place with David's cameraman in Iraq, Craig White, and his best friend, ABC's Bob Woodruff, who, being an attorney, was working pro bono on behalf of David's family. Craig and Bob take this seriously. I am assuming Melanie does not, though I have nothing to base that on ... other than her silence on the subject.

Since those early discussions with Craig and Bob, many military personnel have reported developing DVTs following anthrax vaccination. Some military medical specialists are tracking this. Since 1998, when the Department of Defense began administering anthrax vaccine lots proven to be tainted by nanodoses of squalene, many service members have reported developing post-vaccination autoimmune vasculitis, Churg's Strauss syndrome, endocarditis, myocarditis, collagen vascular disease, cardiomyopathy, polyarteritis nodosa and cerebrovascular accident (CVA). Most of these adverse reactions are listed on the package insert for Biothrax (the licensed human anthrax vaccine). However, as NBC's Craig White reported to me, as have military personnel, the military draws anthrax vaccine in the field from multi-dose aliquots that do not come with a package insert for service members to read.

Thanks again for your interest ... and for writing.

Sincerely,
