Mr Kane,

I had the pleasure of receiving a copy of your latest book, Lennon Revealed for Christmas and am enjoying it very much. However I couldn’t help but be taken aback when I read on page 100 that “…Tommy Smothers, after all had joined the chorus for the recording of “Give Peace a Chance” during John and Yoko’s Toronto bed-in a few years earlier.”

As a lifelong Montrealer I can assure you the recording of “Give Peace a Chance” took place in the Queen Elizabeth Hotel (now part of the Fairmont chain) located in central downtown Montreal. In fact the hotel offers a “Give Peace a Chance package”, details of which can be seen here http://www.fairmont.com/FA/en/CDA/Home/Hotels/Promotions/CDHotelPromoDetail/0,1140,promotion%25255Fseq%253D42074762%2526property%25255Fseq%253D100101%2526promotion%25255Frate%253DPRJLN1,00.html

Below is another link and an excerpt from the site.

I thank you for your excellent book and insight into the life of a truly great man.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono recorded Give Peace a Chance
during a 10-day 'bed in' at the Fairmont's Queen Elizabeth Hotel in 1969

Montreal, Quebec - This ‘hot spot’ is 18 floors directly above Central Station in downtown Montreal. It’s room 1742 of the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth Hotel, a 45-year-old landmark affectionately known as the "Queen E". This is where John Lennon and Yoko Ono caused a media frenzy in 1969 by putting on their jammies and inviting the world press for their 10-day ‘bed-in’. They recorded the song Give Peace a Chance in their suite's living room. Friends who dropped in and joined in on the recording include: Tommy Smothers, Petula Clark, Dr. Timothy Leary and members of the Canadian Radha Krishna Temple.
